The Daniel Sturridge Cup took place this morning using the same format as the Champions league this season, with all teams in one league and the top 4 progressing into the semi finals. We entered two teams, which diluted our strength somewhat, and the results were mixed. The A team struggled from the onset and never really recovered from being beaten 3-0 by Erdington B in their opening fixture although they did follow this defeat with four successive draws which once again highlighted our inability to turn draws into victories. Zach scoring the goals as we drew 2-2 against Kings Norton A and 1-1 against North Shropshire A with the games against East Birmingham B and Aston A remaining goalless. Harborne B beat us 1-0 in our final match which meant that we exited the competition as we had begun- with a defeat. Elnatane was our player of the tournament and Zach took his goals well but generally this was a morning to forget.
A Team Squad: Ruben, Elnatane, Zach Myers, Cayden, Ahyan Ogundiaro, Charlie Stone.
The B team played really well, however, and only missed out on the top 4 on goal difference. They began the morning with Jaxon Boulton (our player of the tournament) scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Sutton Coldfield's A team and made a great recovery after losing 2-0 to North Shropshire A and 1-0 to South Birmingham A. These were the only goals they conceded all tournament and they ended the competition with 2-0 wins over Harborne B and East Birmingham A. Harry and Jaxon on target in the first game and Lucas Smith scoring a brace in the latter. A victory over Erdington A in their final fixture would have taken them into the semi final but it was not to be and the game unfortunately ended goalless.
B Team Squad: Findlay, Deshayan, Ben Johnson, Harry, Jaxon Boulton, Lucas Smith
