Primary Boys v Wirral - 18th September 2021

Our newly-formed primary teams headed up to The Wirral to play two strong Wirral teams in a pre-season friendly at Liscard Primary School which is a fantastic venue for schools’ football. We started very strongly in the first game, created plenty of chances as a result of moving the ball forward at speed, and after some excellent work down the left-hand side from Arjan, Tyler opened the scoring. He bundled the ball home at the second attempt and we soon went further ahead when Arjan scored from a corner. It looked as though the game was running away from the home side but Wirral reduced the arrears when another bobbling ball beat the fantastic Zak in goal. Arjan scored his second of the match, however, to put us back in the driving seat after excellent work from Josh, and then returned the favour when his free kick allowed Josh to make the score 4-1. Tyler closed down a goal kick to complete an emphatic 5-1 win against a very talented team and we could hardly have made a better start to the morning.

If our Gold team thought our second match would be easy though they were soon brought down to earth as Wirral quickly established a 2-0 lead. Indeed, Wirral scored with their first shot on target, as we failed to clear our lines, and their second came after an offside decision left their striker clear to score. Ronnie hit a speculative shot from the edge of the box that left the keeper unsighted to bring us back into the match, however, and we drew level just after the break when Ronnie scored again from his own half. The Wirral ‘keeper really struggling against the high ball. Unfortunately, we let our intensity drop once again and conceded two more goals before a great solo effort from Arjan raised hopes of a late comeback. Wirral scored the final goal to earn a deserved 5-3 victory in a really entertaining contest and to conclude a fantastic morning of football against some good friends. We are really looking forward to welcoming them back to Wolverhampton later in the season.
