U12 Boys v Wakefield - 25th September 2021

The U12's travelled to Wakefield for their opening Champions League encounter and it wasn't surprising that both teams were tentative in the opening exchanges. Nevertheless, chances were created at both ends early on before the home team took the lead after twenty minutes. This gave them the confidence to take a firm grip on the game but, despite Wakefield's undoubted dominance, our lads went into the break facing just a 1-0 deficit. We changed the formation in the second half in order to provide more of an attacking threat but the opposition clinically exploited our vulnerability at the back and after going 3-0 down our heads dropped and the game was lost.

The final scoreline doesn’t reflect the effort Wolverhampton put into the game, however, because André Gouviea was always busy in midfield and with a little more luck he could have got himself on the scoresheet. The same could also be said of Dereice Manhertz and Max Gilbert who certainly had their chances and it would also be remiss of us not to mention the contribution of Alfie Reid in the Wolverhampton goal. Alfie kept his nerve as a rampant Wakefield side kept piling on attack after attack in the second half and we were certainly indebted to him on more than one occasion!
