March 7th 2006. u11 Boys march on with another win.

Wolverhampton made a fantastic start against Aston and in the opening minutes, Jakson showed excellent awareness in goal, to spot Corban’s run, and his long clearance bounced over the Aston defender, enabling Corban to lift the ball over the advancing keeper to give us the lead with a composed finish. Corban continued to cause problems for the opposition but Aston responded well and managed to level the game at 1-1 and the rest of the half was exciting, end-to-end and played at a great tempo.

Aston did strike the crossbar twice and looked extremely threatening at times but it was Wolves who eventually regained the lead and Jakson was once again instrumental in the build- up. On this occasion it was Fabien who chased down the ball before beating his marker and finding the net with a calm left foot finish and we took a 2-1 lead into the break. The second half continued in the same energetic fashion. Thai’s cross-shot just evaded Lucas at the far post, as it flashed across goal, and almost scored himself when his goal bound struck the crossbar but we were not to be denied and eventually our third goal arrived after excellent play down the right. Lucas using his pace to get past his defender before firing a ball across goal that beat the goalkeeper before finding Fabien who was perfectly positioned to make sure it crossed the line. The Aston defenders struggled to cope with the pace of Lucas, Fabien and Corban, who were constantly supported by excellent service from Thai, Monroe, Duarte and Hassan and from that point onwards there was only going to be one winner.

Hassan in particular was showing great understanding of the game from deeper positions and with Charlie and Zora working tirelessly to break up Aston’s attacks and regularly moving the ball forward the lads were able to put all their energies into attack and the final goal of the game from Lucas was a brilliant individual effort. He received the ball on the right, used his pace and dribbling skills to beat several defenders and confidently drove the ball home with his left foot.

Lucas and Fabien were voted our standout performers on the day but Jakson also deserves a special mention for his performance in goal. He is such a confident and reliable presence, and his quick forward distribution, directly contributed to two of Wolverhampton’s goals, but this was a day in which every player contributed to a very impressive team performance, and we are now just one win away from securing the league title.
