February 21st 2026. u10 Girls defeat Stafford.

The u10 girls produced a determined and disciplined team performance this morning away to Stafford despite the pitch turning out to be much bigger than expected. The full-size playing area, and extraordinary length, certainly provided for a real great test of stamina for everyone involved but if nothing else it certainly made for an energetic contest and with no offside the game certainly had its unusual moments. Nevertheless our girls were working so hard for each other and displaying a degree of maturity one could hardly expect of a Year 5 squad that they never looked in any real trouble.

Indeed at times, their link-up between defence and midfield was excellent, and it was a real pleasure to see how calm the girls are in possession and their constant willingness to play measured, thoughtful passing football is obvious for all to see. The way in which our defence was able to keep Stafford at bay, through a combination of excellent awareness and organisation, was also admirable and it is impressive to witness how they remained ever vigilant to the threat posed by opposing players who ventured from the main action to such an extreme degree that in the old days it could well have been termed as ‘goal- hanging!

Team Manager Rob Wilkes summed the game up perfectly when he described the win as “A great performance from everyone involved’ and who can argue, as every player contributed to this well-earned victory but special mentions must go to Sienna, for scoring an excellent winning goal, Eva, whose important contributions helped keep us in the game at key moment and Ella on a fantastic debut. It is particularly pleasing to see this team creating strong passing options from goal kicks, with defenders eager to receive the ball and help build play from the back - a great sign of growing confidence and understanding. This squad has real potential. Well done girls.
