The closely contested 0-0 draw against Rugby, with limited chances at both ends, brought the first half of the Midlands Inter-District League season to a close in conditions which were extremely challenging. Freezing temperatures, persistent rain and strong winds making it a far from the ideal experience for players and spectators alike but that said, the girls showed real character, enthusiasm and determination throughout. Erin took over in goal from Poppy and made a couple of solid saves to keep the score level, but in a game of very few chances neither side were able to break the deadlock.
Our girls have certainly improved throughout the season but unfortunately so has every other team and every game is highly competitive. This was certainly the case in all four of tonight’s friendlies where each game followed a familiar pattern. Wind affected ,few chances and it came down to whichever team scored a goal and unfortunately tonight it was Sutton, Walsall, Aston and Cannock who were able to secure a narrow 1-0 victory despite our best efforts. These friendly matches did allow us to give valuable game time to our entire squad, however, and as usual everyone gave there all. Indeed if effort alone was sufficient we would undoubtably be top of the league.Onwards and upwards. We are certainly looking forward to the next tournament!
Squad: Poppy, Erin, Izzy P, Olivia, Clara, Mila, Jess, Harman, Eva, Sienna J
