Wolverhampton U11 Boys faced a physically and technically impressive Erdington team this morning and produced arguably their best first-half performance of the season. Erdington were largely restricted to long-range efforts which were comfortably dealt with by Jakson in goal and the only real surprise was that the lads were not able to take a more substantial lead into the interval. Arjan, who had been drafted in from our u10s, breaking the deadlock with a superb left foot half volley that gave the goalkeeper no chance after he had collected the ball on the edge of the box.
With Hassan pulling the strings in midfield, and our defence, expertly marshalled by Zora and Charlie looking assured, the second half began in a similar vein until Erdington somehow found an equaliser with a well-placed low shot into the far corner and the whole momentum of the match instantly changed. Erdington began to grow in confidence, and whilst a few long-range efforts from Thai and Duarte tested their goalkeeper, it was our opponents who struck next. A dangerous break down the right seeing Jakson push away the initial shot, only for an Erdington player to net the rebound.
There was still time for the lads to come back of course but Erdington went on to score twice more to seal the win. The fourth goal coming with virtually the last kick of the match. Few people could have predicted a 4-1 defeat after our dominant opening display, but whilst the eventual score-line is perhaps a little misleading, football as we know is a game of two halves.
Nevertheless, despite the obvious disappointment, there are many positives to take from such a committed and disciplined Wolverhampton showing.
Team: Jakson, Zora, Charlie, Hassan, Duarte, Monroe, Thai, Fabien.
