June 2026. Primary Football Review.

Throughout the 2025-26 season, hundreds of children from across the city were given the opportunity to represent their school in competitive matches and by doing so they were able to enjoy the experience of playing football with their friends. Whatever their level of experience, every player had the opportunity to develop their skills, improve their understanding of the game and, most importantly, build up their confidence. The importance of primary school football extends far beyond results and trophies of course, for it also teaches teamwork, communication, resilience and respect but life is all about competition and we offer our congratulations to those pupils fortunate enough to have been involved in sides competing for medals and trophies

Rakegate, Christ Church, St Michael’s CE, Long Knowle, Springdale, Bilston CE, Stowlawn, and Whitgreave all won their respective area leagues which is a great achievement in itself. After a series of quarter finals and semi- final matches Christ Church Primary faced Bilston CE in the final and finally emerged as City Champions. Both Blakemore Cup competitions also provided memorable finals which both went to penalties. Elston Hall defeating St Stephen’s in the Boys competition whilst another Elston Hall team eventually lost out to Perry Hall in a dramatic Girls Final.

Players involved in these games have surely created moments that will live long in their memory. For some of these children this might be just the beginning of a journey which could progress into district football, County football, Club football and beyond but for others the real benefit is to be found in the simple enjoyment of playing the game and developing a lifelong love of sport. The success of Wolverhampton Primary Schools football would not be possible without the commitment of the schools and the large numbers of people who make these competitions possible. We offer our thanks to parents and families who have supported their sons and daughters over the past season and of course all those teachers and staff involved in the organisation of teams and fixtures.
