October 3rd 2026. Plenty to build on for u11 Boys.
There was plenty of learning and experience for these nine young players in another demanding morning of inter-district league football. Two defeats and plenty of valuable lessons for the players to take into their next fixtures. Wolverhampton made a flying start in their opening game against Kings Norton, taking the lead inside the first 30 seconds but unfortunately this merely spurred our opponents into action and they responded by scoring two quick goals.
Jack had showed excellent awareness to nip in and take his chance, however, and we were far from downhearted and competed really well after falling behind. They showed great character to fight their way back, with George finding the equaliser and the game was once again in the balance. Unfortunately we were punished for two defensive mistakes, and King’s Norton, went on to secure a 4–2 victory.
Games like this are an important part of their development, however, and they help them understand just how competitive representative football can be. Our second fixture proved to be an even tougher challenge and the lads struggled to find any rhythm against a powerful North Shropshire side who fielded two players from Walsall and one from Shrewsbury. Our opponents took control of the game from the off and pounced on our every mistake to eventually achieve a comfortable 5-0 victory.
A difficult afternoon but an important learning experience. There is no doubt that there is plenty for this young Wolverhampton group to work on, but this is exactly what representative football is all about. Every fixture brings a new challenge, and every challenge provides an opportunity to learn.
Wearing the Wolverhampton shirt, experiencing the highs and challenges of playing against strong opposition, and learning what is required to compete at this level is all part of the football journey.
A huge well done to all the lads for representing Wolverhampton Schools with pride. There will be more challenges ahead, but there will also be plenty more opportunities for the group to grow, improve, and enjoy their football.
Squad: Oliver, Jacob, Kaiden, Tommie, Ethan, Isaiah, George, Fraser and Jack.
