October 17th 2026. Thrilling draw for u11 Boys.
The Wolverhampton Schools U11 representative team produced an entertaining performance against Erdington in their latest inter-district fixture at Brookvale Academy on Saturday. Our lads grabbed the initiative from the kick off and made good use of the space available on the larger pitch and took the lead in a first half full of end-to-end football.
Cobie’s free kick was initially saved by the Erdington goalkeeper, but Lucas was the first to react and confidently put away the rebound. With both team looking to attack at every opportunity it was surprising that there were no further goals before the interval but we went into the break grateful of the advantage in a game played at such a high tempo.
Erdington came out for the second half with real determination, however, and showed great character to turn the game on its head by scoring two goals in quick succession but Wolverhampton, were not prepared to give up without a fight. Our lads took the game to our opponents and Arjun produced a perfectly placed shot into the top corner to bring the scores level at 2–2.
As the game opened up, Erdington regained the lead when a cross from the right was met with a well-struck volley that found the back of the Wolverhampton net but we weren’t finished yet. There was still plenty of determination in our team, and with Cobie working tirelessly to create opportunities for his teammates we went in search of the equaliser.
One of his excellent runs into the penalty area on the left resulted in the ball finding Bertie, who showed good composure to create space for himself before firing past the Erdington goalkeeper to make it 3–3 and complete the scoring. Both teams continued to look for a winning goal, but neither could find a way through and a draw was probably a fair reflection of the game.
An entertaining and closely contested encounter between two committed teams and another valuable experience for the Wolverhampton boys, who continue to develop through representative football and enjoy the challenge of playing against other school district teams.
