October 31st 2026. Well done u10 Boys.
Wolverhampton began the first of two matches this morning against a Sutton Coldfield side who are enjoying a good season. Both teams contributed to a fast-paced, competitive encounter before Sutton broke the deadlock midway through the game with a powerful, low hit shot that flew past Oliver before he was able to react.
Wolverhampton looked to respond, with George just being closed down before he could get his shot away. At the other end, a speculative Sutton effort struck the far post which was a let-off. Some excellent distribution from Oliver then created a great opportunity for Jack, whose control and turn to get himself one-on-one with the defender were superb, although his subsequent effort was blocked.
He continued to cause problems throughout and created our best opportunity when he sent George through on goal. Unfortunately his shot went narrowly wide and despite our best efforts the equaliser never came. We finished the game on the wrong end of a 1–0 score-line but this was nevertheless a really close competitive game between two evenly matched teams, with plenty of positives for our team to take from the performance.
Wolverhampton carried their good form into the second fixture against South Birmingham and created our first opportunity when Jack set up George, whose shot was saved by the goalkeeper. Xavier followed up looking to convert the rebound, but South Birmingham managed to keep the ball out and then South Birmingham responded by breaking forward and forcing Oliver into an excellent save with his legs.
Wolverhampton continued to battle well in midfield and were rewarded with the opening goal. A good delivery from Xavier found Isaiah inside the penalty area. Despite being closely marked, Isaiah showed excellent skill and composure to turn brilliantly and fire the ball underneath the goalkeeper to give our team a 1-0 lead.
Xavier was again involved shortly afterwards, delivering a first-time cross which Jack met with a volley, although the South Birmingham goalkeeper did well to keep out his effort and the midfield battle continued, with both teams competing strongly, before the ball eventually spun out to Xavier, whose effort again went just wide.
Wolverhampton finally doubled their advantage in impressive fashion. Jack intercepting a misplaced pass and showing great awareness and composure to turn a half chance into a goal. The boys saw out the game to secure a deserved victory and a clean sheet and overall this was a very encouraging morning for the Wolverhampton u10’s despite their narrow defeat against Sutton Coldfield.
Most pleasing was the overall improvement in the team’s performance, with the boys showing greater confidence, determination and teamwork throughout the morning. Plenty for the players to take encouragement from as they continue their development and gain further experience of the demands of playing district football.
