September 26th 2026. Close win for the u10's.

The u10’s played Aston this morning in a hugely entertaining game packed with quality, attacking football, plenty of goals and, importantly, lots of learning for the young players. We made a good start and Jack put us into an early lead shortly after his earlier effort had been saved. George did brilliantly to close down an Aston player and win possession before setting up Jack, who produced a superb left-foot finish. 1-0 to Wolverhampton.

Aston responded with a corner, but Wolverhampton turned defence into attack in terrific fashion and a quick break and an excellent one-two involving Fraser and Jack enabled Jack to round the keeper for our second. Aston did pull a goal back but we were still very much in control at that point.

There was plenty to admire in Wolverhampton’s play, with Alfie, Kaiden and Tommie, quickly earning the nickname ‘Wolverhampton’s Rio Ferdinand’, defending well, starting attacks and making a positive contribution when we were in possession.

Isaiah had an excellent debut, settling into the team well and showing plenty of promise on his first appearance, and the lads led 2-1 at the break.The second half continued in the same open and exciting fashion, with both teams looking to attack and Ethan produced some excellent runs from midfield displaying real quality throughout.

He has the ability to influence the game and provide a strong presence in midfield. A performance akin to that of the superb French midfielder Claude Makélélé. Jack, our little Alan Shearer, completed his hat trick following some closely contested challenges in the middle of the pitch, and came close to adding a fourth before Xavier took his opportunity brilliantly to make the score 4-1. Wolverhampton were playing really good football and the fourth goal was a fine example of the team’s attacking quality.

At this point Eddy and Reece decided to give Jack and Ethan a well-earned rest and to use this as an opportunity to rotate the team and try out a few ideas. This enabled Aston to come back into the game and they took full advantage as we became a little disjointed. They scored twice more to set up a tense finish but with their second coming just a minte from the end we were able to hold on to secure a thoroughly deserved victory.

There was plenty to be proud of from a Wolverhampton perspective apart from the 4-3 victory. The players showed quality in possession, defended bravely, created numerous chances and demonstrated some excellent attacking football. Most importantly, it was another valuable experience for the young players. Games like this provide the opportunity to test themselves against strong  opposition, learn from every situation and develop as a team.
