Wolverhampton u11’s produced their best performance of the season when their faced Aston this morning in an eagerly anticipated Cup quarter-final encounter at Brookvale. Every player rose to the occasion producing a display full of energy, quality and sharp attacking play which fully vindicated the faith that team manager Eddy Hall has always had in this group of players. The breakthrough came early when Thai won possession in midfield and played Corban through on goal.Corban went on to beat the keeper with ease and Wolverhampton’s momentum continued to build.
A lively run down the right from Lucas led to a superb low cross, which Thai met at the far post to double our lead and with Mustafa, Thai and Corban all going close it was no surprise when we went 3-0 up when Mustafa reacted quickest to score following a corner.Mustafa also scored our fourth goal after a brave header from Lucas had created the opportunity and incredibly Corban made the score 5-0 before the break after excellent midfield play from Duarte.
With such a commanding half-time lead the lads could have been excused for easing up but they continued to play with such quality, intensity and commitment in the second half that Aston’s only moment of success came from a corner which for once Wolverhampton were unable to clear. Even then our response was immediate with Lucas restoring the five goal cushion after great work from Charlie.
Our final goal followed more excellent work on the right from Lucas and his driven cross-shot fell perfectly to Hassan, who calmly finished to complete an emphatic 6-1 victory. While our attacking players obviously deserve plenty of praise, Wolverhampton’s defence was equally impressive. Charlie led by example throughout, Zora showed his usual determination to break up attacks, and on the odd occasion that Aston threatened, Jakson proved dependable and assured in goal. Lucas and Hasan were chosen as our players of the match, and our debutant Jovan Dhaliwal was impressive, but above all this was an outstanding team performance.
Squad: Jakson, Charlie, Zora, Hassan, Jovan, Lucas, Thai, Mustafa, Corban, Duarte, Monroe.
