The u11 Boys had the thankless task of travelling to Bidston Leisure Centre to play a National Cup tie against a Wirral side who are one of the strongest district sides in the country. Our ask was made even more daunting by the fact that they were able to call on a number of academy players but as always, our boys were up for the challenge! Nevertheless there was little between the two sides in the opening stages and Wolverhampton more than held their own. They were confident and determined with some promising moments, but once Wirral had managed to edge ahead from a corner our opponents began to seize the initiative and two more goals before the break ultimately decided the game in their favour.
Despite being 3–0 down at the break, our lads were not prepared to lay down, however, and there was certainly plenty to be proud of in our second half performance. Hassan and Uthmann joined the defence, amongst several tactical changes after the interval, and Wolverhampton looked far more solid and organised as a result. The lads were committed in the tackle, and refused to give up and on the odd occasion Wirral were able to threaten they found Jakson in brilliant form. He was our man of the match and did more than anyone to keep the margin of defeat respectable but despite being unable to score at the other end of the pitch we never gave up trying. Charlie and Mustafa battled hard in midfield to drive the team forward whilst Thai, Corban, Lucas, and Fabien worked tirelessly up front to try to find that elusive breakthrough and the marked improvement after half-time was fantastic to see.
Losing 3-0 is difficult to take but we musn't be too disheartened because this is another valuable learning experience for this hardworking Wolverhampton squad who showed great character throughout. They represent the district with pride and give everything for the badge and should be paised for their efforts.
Squad: Jakson, Zora, Monroe, Charlie, Lucas, Thai, Hassan, Mustafa, Fabien, Corban, Mubashar, Uthmann.
