Wolverhampton Schools FA u15 Girls continued their preparations for the ESFA National Cup game against Brighton with a friendly fixture against Kidderminster Harriers u16s on

Thursday 29th October under the floodlights at Wolverhampton Community Sporting FC.

Wolverhampton made a positive start and were awarded an early penalty when Leja was brought down by the Kidderminster goalkeeper. Leja stepped up to take the spot kick, but the Harriers keeper produced a good save to keep the scores level and the remainder of the half was an end-to-end encounter with both sides creating opportunities.

Rosie came close on two occasions, but it was Kidderminster who broke the deadlock. Their striker reacting quickest to a loose ball following a long-range free kick to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage at half-time. The Wolverhampton girls responded positively after the break and were soon back on level terms. Leja was fouled for a second time inside the penalty area after getting on the end of a through ball from Amaya, and this time Grace confidently converted the resulting penalty to make it 1-1.

The equaliser sparked an excellent spell of football from Wolverhampton, who began to dominate possession, move the ball confidently and create numerous opportunities. Their pressure was rewarded when Grace produced a superb finish, floating the ball over the Kidderminster goalkeeper from a wide position to put Wolverhampton 2-1 ahead and we continued to create chances and looked in control, and Kidderminster deserved credit for remaining in the contest.

With around five minutes remaining, the visitors found an equaliser before producing another breakaway attack in the closing stages to snatch an unlikely late winner. A disappointing result from our perspective but there were plenty of positives as our girls produced some excellent football, showed good character in coming from behind and will undoubtedly benefit from the experience of facing strong u16 opposition.

Attention now turns to the National Cup group fixture against Brighton & Hove Schools on Friday 13th November at Lilleshall and the team will be looking to build on the three points already secured following their group-stage victory against Slough.
