September 20th 2024.U14 Girls' brave battle against Liverpool.

Updated: Sep 22

We know from bitter experience how difficult it is to come away from Liverpool with a positive result but as usual our girls were up for the challenge and we began well with a good press only to be pushed back once the home team got into their stride. Considering the quality of football that both these fine sides are capable off it was a little surprising that the game was clearly deteriorating into a kick and rush style contest with neither set of players able to keep the ball on the floor but two great strikes before half time put Liverpool in the ascendancy at the break.

We were simply too slow to spot the danger in order to close down the strikes but we were far from beaten and a great finish into the bottom right from Faith deservedly put us back in the game early in the second half. Indeed things got even better when Tayne found the net after scrappy defending only for Liverpool to dash our hopes with a stunning free kick. Further poor defending put us further behind and we eventually went down to a 6-2 defeat but the scoreline was harsh on the players. Remi Mcketty came on and showed the commitment, energy, and passion we had lacked at times and deservedly won the player of the match award. She did Wolverhampton Schools proud with her battling performance and used her strength to battle and win strong tackles in the midfield never giving up no matter how tough the game got. An example to us all!
