September 28th 2025. A fine start for the u13 girls.

Wolverhampton Schools Under-13 Girls, with Lara, Liliana ,Erica and Margot all making strong debuts, played out a thrilling 1-1 draw against South Staffs this afternoon in the National Cup. Both teams displayed tremendous effort, skill, and determination throughout that there was so little between them in this fiercely competitive contest that the result was in doubt to the very end.South Staffs took the lead through Erin Holt after 12 minutes and at times it looked as though that solitary goal would be enough for them to win the match but with our striker Ava working tirelessly up front we always remained in contention. Ava was causing constant problems for the South Staffs defence by forcing their goalkeeper into a couple of important saves but the key moments of the match, came at the other end of the pitch. Wolverhampton’s goalkeeper producing three outstanding saves, each one preventing South Staffs from extending their lead and somehow we survived..

That resilience paved the way for a dramatic finish and with just three minutes remaining, Wolverhampton piled on the pressure and a dangerous free kick from Ava finally unsettled the South Staffs defence to such an extent that the elusive opportunity that had somehow eluded us throughout the game finally arrived. Lara was on it like a flash and arriving late in the box she slotted the ball home to level the game at 1-1. It was no more than the Wolverhampton girls deserved after their determined and spirited performance and as the final whistle was blown both teams were able to take pride in the quality and commitment on display. Wolverhampton’s young side, boosted by impressive debuts and heroic goalkeeping, showed plenty of promise for the challenges ahead and they can now look forward to games against Carmarthenshire, Afan Nedd, and Swansea with real confidence.
