Wolverhampton Schools under 12 Girls side produced an excellent all‑round performance on Sunday March 1st to secure a comprehensive victory in this 9‑a‑side friendly at Moreton School against a strong NAR Sports side who arrived with a squad packed with quality, featuring players from Stoke City, Crewe and Port Vale Academies and Emerging Talent Centres. This was a highly competitive match played at a strong tempo throughout and Wolverhampton set the tone early on with a progressive and attacking formation devised by coaches Leigh and Rob. A solid defensive foundation proved to be the key to our victory with Shaylor and Keisha forming such an effective partnership at the back and our overall organisation and communication helped protect our goalkeeper Kairi deliver an excellent performance and she impressed with her agility and great awareness.
This defensive stability also allowed our players to overload the midfield and wide areas, and in central midfield, Olivia played a pivotal role, linking defence and attack with composure. Her quick, accurate distribution ensured Wolverhampton maintained momentum throughout and the girls consistently threatened in advanced areas. Megan was equally impressive in midfield, combining strong ball‑winning with calm and intelligent use of possession and her ability to retain the ball, and distribute it effectively, provided a steady balance and control at the heart of the team.Serae and Haro also delivered strong performances. Serae pressed high and showed great determination to win the ball early, pushing us ever forwards with tenacity while Haro adapted confidently to a new position on the left side of midfield, showcasing excellent technical ability, smooth possession and creativity. Amelia, making her debut, was also very tidy in possession and she produced a really solid performance, relaxing into the game and fitting into the team seamlessly.
Izzy produced a really standout performance with her direct running, dribbling ability and attacking intent and she caused constant problems for the opposition defence alongside Alarna and Clara who both worked tirelessly, using their skill, pace and energy to stretch the opposition. Both were rewarded for their efforts with well taken goals late in the game whilst Izzy capped off an outstanding display by scoring four goals. This earned her the match ball and a well‑ deserved Player of the Match award success.
The game had flowed end to end, with both teams displaying pace, skill and intent, and they are all to be congratulated for creating such an entertaining contest. At times the match was closer than the 6-2 margin of victory would tend to suggest but this was nevertheless a highly encouraging team performance. It highlights the group’s development, teamwork and growing confidence and every one of our players made a very meaningful contribution. Well done Girls. Another positive step forward!
