The u10’s came very close to making their first ever schools District final and twice went ahead before a late equaliser and two extra time goals put paid to their hopes. A free kick just outside of our penalty area, which went over the head of Toby in the Woverhampton goal, gave Sutton Coldfield the ideal start after only 3 minutes but with R’khi outstanding in midfield we continued to press and Jaxon's equalising volley must surely be in contention for the goal of the season.There was no further scoring before the break but Harry Gillett went really close when he arrived superbly at the far post only to see his effort smothered at the death by the advancing keeper.
Spurred on by his earlier disappointment Harry continued to make the opposition defenders uneasy with his probing runs and it was he that created the second goal for Wolverhampton with a powerful low cross which was spilled, enabling Zach Myers to turn the ball into the net.
Unfortunately Sutton levelled from a corner before we were able to seize the initiative with Toby just failing to keep out the ball as it rolled ominously over the line. All goals count the same of course but when the Wolverhampton lads score it is usually something special and our third, was yet another contender for goal of the season.R’khi making a diagonal run, after receiving the ball in midfield, before firing a perfectly struck low left foot shot into the bottom far corner of the net giving the keeper no chance.Surely a goal worthy of winning a semi final but with full time approaching Sutton grabbed an equaliser with a great shot into the top corner of the goal to tie the game at 3-3. A bitter disappointment after coming so close and Sutton scored two quick goals in the first period of extra time before we had time to regain our composure and, whilst we tried hard to fight back, in the end we we simply ran out of time.
