January 24th 2024. Mixed fortunes for our School teams.

St. Stephen’s Church of England Primary School and Elston Hall Primary both represented Wolverhampton in the West Midlands County round of this seasons ESFA Pokemon 7 a side tournament which was held at The Castle Vale Stadium in Birmingham. St. Stephens in the small schools competition, and Elston Hall in the general under 11 competition. It was tough playing against some of the best school teams from around the region but both teams acquitted themelves very well and rose to the challenge.

A team from Elston Hall came within a whisker of winning the competition last season but this year they were unfortunate to find themselves in the same group as the eventual winners and finalists, and despite remaining undefeated in games against Hill West (Sutton Coldfield) and Barr View (Aston) the lads were eliminated after narrow defeats against The Meadows (Kings Norton) and Colmore (South Birmingham).

St Stephen's did extremely well in their competition and qualified for the semi final in which they defeated Our Lady of Fatima Primary from Harborne 3-1.Hopes were high that they could become the first Wolverhampton side to win the West Midlands' Small Schools Trophy but they had to settle for runners up medals after losing 2-1 to St Nicholas Primary School from Sutton Coldfield. Nevertheless a great effort from a one form entry school.

Indeed we are extremely proud of all three of our representative sides and Perry Hall Girls went one step further than St.Stephen's by winning their competition and they will now progress to The Midlands' finals in March.
