March 2nd 2024. U13 Girls exit The National Cup.

Updated: Mar 15

Our U13 Girls brave cup run is over after losing to Brighton & Hove.Neither side had quite performed well enough to qualify for the main competition but with a win over Sheffield and a draw at Knowsley St.Helens in the group we went into The Plate full of confidence and our 7-1 quarter final victory at Slough had done little to dampen our expectations. Indeed we started extremely well and went into an early 1-0 lead thanks to a wonder goal from Harmani into the top right corner after beating several players from the left. Brighton pegged us back due to an unfortunate goalkeeping error but we then took the game by the scruff of the neck and things were looking promising shortly after half time as we led 3-1 thanks to 2 goals from Dhemi either side of the break.Unfortunately a crazy ten minute spell allowed our opponents to score two quick fire goals from corners to cancel out our advantage and we were never really able to recover from the blow and with a storm hitting us on and off the pitch we eventually experienced a 5-3 defeat. An unfortunate and harsh lesson and a disappointing end to our chase for back to back finals. Brighton U13 Girls have a proud record in ESFA tournaments, however, and they will now meet Sheffield who overcame Wirral Girls 3-1 in the other semi-final.
