The u13 girls entertained a well-organised and competitive Swansea team and found themselves pushed back in the early stages as the Welsh girls started brightly under the lights.
Our defence stood strong throughout, however, and despite being under pressure at times, we looked lively on the counter-attack and created several chances of our own. Indeed, both sides had good scoring opportunities but just as it looked as though we would go into the break level Swansea broke the deadlock shortly before half-time to lead 1-0 at the interval. Despite the setback the Wolverhampton girls came out for the second half with renewed energy and a positive mindset, determined to take the game to the opposition, and we began to take control in midfield in what turned out to be an action packed second half full of thrills and spills.
Wolverhampton enjoyed a strong 15-minute spell of sustained pressure which looked likely to bring about the desired breakthrough but Swansea continued to threaten on the break, and Bella was called on to produce two outstanding saves in quick succession to avoid us falling even further behind. A crucial goal-line clearance followed soon after, highlighting once again the determination and resilience of our defensive unit, but just when it seemed the game might slip away from us, our girls found the equaliser through a well-worked move down the right. A ball played into the channel released Ava, who drove forward and delivered a composed pull-back for Lilliana Parr to finish calmly and make it 1–1. From that point onwards Wolverhampton pushed for the winner and the final 10 minutes was certainly action packed with our girls creating further chances and coming so close to taking all three points. In the end the match ended level but this was a strong team performance and a well-earned result against an impressive Swansea outfit. Plenty of positives to build on. Well done, girls!
