Our U13 Girls made a three hour journey to South Wales and returned home victorious after a super 2-0 win over Carmarthenshire. From the opening whistle, Wolverhampton stamped their authority on the game using their new-look 3-5-2 formation which kept the home side on the back foot and Emilia and Lara were constant outlets on the wings. With the duo stretching the pitch and driving the team forward, and Delilah, Ruby, and Beau orchestrating the midfield with skill and composure, it didn’t take long for our dominance to tell and the breakthrough came after just 12 minutes. Emilia delivering a superb cross from the right, which Skye met with a perfectly timed finish. Moments later, Ava thought she’d doubled the lead, but her effort was harshly ruled out for an alleged foul after a shoulder-to-shoulder challenge.
The defensive trio of Leilah, Lois, and Mozza were rock solid, composed and unflappable throughout and with Erica adding further stability after coming on Wolverhampton rarely looked troubled at the back but whilst the score remained at 1-0 there was always a chance that Carmarthen could grab a goal from nowhere and they were handed a golden chance to equalise from the penalty spot. Fortunately Bella produced a brilliant save diving low to her right and we entered the break with our slender lead intact. The second half saw Wolverhampton continue their dominance, with fresh legs adding even more energy and debutant Iris began to impress with her calm presence.Fellow substitutes Daisy and Lilianna eventually combined beautifully for the decisive second goal, and at last we were able to relax.Daisy’s perfectly weighted through ball sliced through the Carmarthen defence, and Lilianna showed composure beyond her years to slot home and make it 2–0 around the hour mark.
Ava remained a constant attacking threat throughout, driving at defenders and creating chances until the final whistle and her tireless work epitomised the team’s spirit and determination. This was certainly a performance full of energy, teamwork, and tactical maturity and even the Carmarthen manager praised our girls quality and attitude, describing them as "an extremely well-driven team with a couple of outstanding players." A superb all-round display that keeps Wolverhampton’s ESFA Cup campaign firmly on tracK !
