April 4th 2026. u10 Boys on top form.

Wolverhampton U10s delivered an impressive performance to ultimately secure an excellent victory over Halesowen in an entertaining and competitive friendly after the first half had been closely contested, with chances at both ends. Our keeper needed to produce a number of important saves to keep the scores level but with Bertie causing chaos at the other end of the pitch with his pace, the Halesowen goal looked far more under threat. The standout moment of the half saw their keeper make a tremendous reflex save to prevent us taking the lead after Jaxxon’s powerful shot had fallen into the path of Bertie and Lucas, but Halesowen’s relief was short lived.

The breakthrough finally arriving via a swift counter-attack with debutant Zac Humphrey showing composure beyond his years to fire low into the far corner with his right foot. The Wolverhampton lads carried the single goal lead into the break and came out strongly for the second half. An early effort from Alfie led to a corner, and following a determined battle for possession by our captain Jaxxon, the ball fell kindly to Zac Humphrey, who fired home to double the lead. Zac continued to shine and completed his hat-trick shortly afterwards after being fouled in the penalty area. Indeed he later came within a whisker of adding a fourth only to be denied by the post!

Wolverhampton maintained the pressure, with Aaran delivering a good ball to Bertie, who set up Lucas, only to be denied again by the Halesowen goalkeeper and Sehaj came even closer with a strong effort that was tipped onto the crossbar and our final goal eventually arrived after yet another spell of sustained pressure. Bertie was again involved, continuing the attack before the ball fell to Arjan who struck a superb long-range effort from outside the area which sailed over the goalkeeper and into the net. Overall, it was a strong team performance and our coach was delighted not just with the 4-0 margin of victory but with the way in which every single player contributed from start to finish. The lads played some really good football throughout and created so many goal-scoring opportunities whilst also maintaining a clean sheet. A lot of that was down to both of our excellent keepers of course and it was impressive how we defended as a team and won most of our personal battles.

Zac Humphrey claimed a memorable hat-trick on his debut and was the Parents’ unanimous choice as their Player of the Match. Zac displayed a relentless work rate throughout as did Jaxxon, our captain, and Coach’s Player of the Match. Jaxxon put in a ‘proper solid shift, showing great leadership and determination but we also need to give a Special mention to Sehaj who produced a dominant and assured display and impressed in multiple positions. We can now look ahead to our next few fixtures. We have a game at Brookvale Academy next Saturday, and more friendlies are planned for  the coming weeks.
