A much-changed Wolverhampton side faced a challenging fixture against North Shropshire with three players making their league debuts and others returning after absence. As a result the team took a little time to develop into a cohesive rhythm but they nevertheless competed well in the early stages. North Shropshire broke the deadlock, by finishing from close range after a period of pressure but Wolverhampton responded well and soon drew level through a move which began with a free kick from the left just inside the opposition half. Mohammed delivered it goalwards and as the ball approached the goalkeeper, Dilroop reacted sharply, darting across the keeper’s line of sight to get a decisive touch and divert the ball into the net. Game on but
unfortunately, North Shropshire raised their intensity and not only went ahead a second time but, capitalising on their momentum, quicky established a deserved 4–1 lead by the time the two sides went into the break.
We saw a much-improved Wolverhampton performance in the second half. Jaxxon, our player of the match, came close with a superb long-range strike that appeared destined for the top corner, only for the North Shropshire goalkeeper to make an excellent save and tip the ball around the post and this seemed to spur us on to greater efforts and we were certainly becoming far more competitive. Further positive play followed, as good work from Rocco and Aaron again tested the goalkeeper, who was forced into another smart save and our lads were finally rewarded for their perseverance when a corner from Rocco fell to Jaxxon, who struck the ball cleanly into the net to reduce the deficit to 4–2. Despite our best efforts, the comeback could not be completed, however, and as the match drew to a close North Shropshire added a fifth goal to seal a 5–2 victory.
Squad: Oliver Cooper-Scarsbrick (GK), Aaron Bains, Hugo Jenkins , George, Jaxxon, Rocco, Kareem, Mohammed, Dilroop.
