Wolverhampton started the game brightly with Alessandro rattling the post early on, but it was Erdington who struck first and they soon doubled their lead when a low shot slipped under Stefan to give them a 2-0 advantage. It got even worse when a lack of defensive organisation allowed them to add a third but this only served to spark us into action and Ciaran pulled one back with a precise finish into the corner. Minutes later we were extremey unlucky to see an effort come back off the inside of the post but once Ciaran had latched on to Jaxxon''s superb corner and brought the deficit back to just a single goal we were well and truly back in the contest. Unfortunately Erdington restored their two-goal cushion before half-time and whilst Wolves came out positively for the second half we were very much aware that the lads had a real mountain to climb if they were going to salvage anything from this game.
Ciaran made a strong run to set up Jaxxon, who shot narrowly wide, but once a short goal-kick had proved costly and enabled Erdington to pounce from close range to open up a 5-2 lead everyone knew that the writing was on the wall. Stefan produced an excellent save, only for Erdington to follow up and net anyway, and the goals continued to flow. Indeed, by the time Arjan and Jaxxon had linked up nicely to create the opportunity for Dilroop to finish smartly we were already five goals in arrears and this goal only seemed to elicit a rapid response from our opponents and the final score was 9-3 to Erdington. Ciaran had twice come agonisingly close in the latter stages, with one of his efforts even striking the bar, but we were clearly second best this morning and we were never able to match Erdington's clinical finishing or their ability to hit effectively on the break.
Squad: Stefan, George, Jett, Jaxxon, Dilroop, Cairan, Alessandro, Arjan.
