February 1st 2024. Perry Hall Girls.West Midlands' Champions 2024.

The girls from Perry Hall Primary, representing Wolverhampton Schools, played superbly yesterday to win the West Midland County Finals of the ESFA Pokemon 7-a-side tournament. It is almost twenty years since Trinity last lifted the Trophy for the City and Perry Hall will now progress to The Midland Counties Regional event in March. In that tournament they will be competing against tournament winners from the North of the region, including Humberside, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire , Worcestershire and Warwickshire for a place in the ESFA National Finals. Last year they were hosted by Leicester City at The King Power Stadium.

Perry Hall made a slow start to the competition, drawing their first game 0-0 with Kings Norton Primary, and losing 1-0 to Welsh House Farm from Harborne before getting into their stride and winning their two remaining group games to qualify for the semi-final. Their 2-0 victory over Lyndon Green Primary from East Birmingham was the turning point and it gave them the confidence to score the only goal to defeat the previously unbeaten Little Sutton team from Sutton Coldfield. In the semi finals, Perry Hall beat the girls from Colmore (South Birmingham) who had won their group, and went on to face Little Sutton once again but this time in the final. There was so little between these two excellent sides and the game ended 0-0 after extra time before Perry Hall triumphed 3-2 on penalties. The Wednesfield girls proudly stepped forward to collect The West Midlands trophy and in the process demonstrated the quality of girls football within the city of Wolverhampton.
