The league has now been divided in to two, so this was the second game in the new mini league and we made a good start against a side who had inflicted a dramatic 5-4 defeat last time out and took an early lead lead when a good cross from Lucas out on the right found Fabien in the box. Corban was also well positioned to score but it was Fabien who reacted first to ensure that the ball ended up in our opponents' net. Wolverhampton were generally dominating the game and it looked like we had gone 2-0 up only for the strike to be ruled out for offside but Harborne were also dangerous on the counter attack and it required a great save from Jakson, from a powerful long range effort, to maintain our slight advantage.Wolves continued to dominate, creating a flurry of chances, with Corban's effort going agonisingly wide of the post after another great cross from Lucas found Thai but his shot from close range came back off the keeper who knew very little about it. Even Ollie was able to push forward from his defensive role to get in on the action with a long range effort that went into the side netting, but the second goal simply wouldn't come and to cap it all Corban saw his shot come back off the post, with our last attack before the break.
The second half carried on in much the same fashion with chances created and opportunities spurned with Jakson a virtual spectator for long periods. That said, he had to be on his toes for the three or four times that our opponents had been able to threaten on the counter attack.
Ahlaji had a good effort saved, and Lucas went so close to netting the rebound before disaster struck just three minutes from the end. An unfortunate handball in the box, resulted in a Harborne penalty which was duly converted to eventually deny us such a deserved win even though Irorun made a great run and hit the far post with virtually the last kick of the match.
If you don’t score from the chances created, then there is every chance your opponents will take theirs but that said this was a solid performance with great defensive displays from Nihaal, Charlie and Ollie, with Albaji, Lucas and Thai looking threatening whilst also working incredibly hard off the ball. Irorun and Corban were constantly trying to make the difference for the team and we must also give a special mention to two more players.Jakson in goal who made some outstanding saves to keep Wolves in the lead and Lucas, our player of the match, for his assist and work rate on and off the ball.
Squad: Jakson (GK), Nihaal, Charlie, Ollie, Albaji, Lucas, Fabien, Thai, Irorun, Corban.
