March 20th 2024. Heartbreak for Perry Hall Primary Girls.

Perry Hall represented Wolverhampton in the Girls' Midland Regional Finals at Castle Vale this afternoon and took a while to get into their stride just as they had done in the West Midlands stage of this 7-a-side National competition sponsored by Pokemon. Indeed after a 1-1 draw against Edge Hill from Staffordshire and a goalless draw against Sacred Heart, (the eventual champions from Nottinghamshire), they knew only a victory in their final group game could keep them in the tournament and the girls responded with a thrilling 3-1 victory over Mount Pleasant who had travelled all the way from Humberside. At last the team seemed to have found their shooting boots and with Layla, Lola, Alarna and Ruby already finding the target, hopes were high that a place in the final was well within their grasp. St. Bede's from Worcestershire had other ideas of course and they established an early 2-0 lead in the semi final only to see Perry Hall storm back to reduce the deficit in the second half in which they completely dominated. Chance after chance went begging ,however, and the girls couldn't find that elusive equaliser which would have taken the match into extra time. So near and yet so far but the girls must be congratulated for getting so close to the final which would have been sufficient to take them into the National Finals in May regardless of the eventual result.

Squad:Mia Cooper, Scarlett Giles, Layla Dolman, Alarna Samuels, Alice Wardle, Lola Farrow,

Ruby McLean, Olivia Harriot-McFarlane, Millie Malia, Jessica Merricks.
