March 2nd 2024. Great comeback for the U11 Boys.

Wolverhampton tried to get back into the game after conceding an early goal to Harborne and would surely have succeeeded but for some excellent goalkeeping and equally good defending. Theo and Claudiu had shots cleared off the line and Theo's effort certainly looked over the line but the lads kept going even though we also had a shot come back off the post and somehow managed to go 3-0 down despite dominating possession.Nevertheless Rory Butler continued to be a calming presence in his central midfield role as we saw chance after chance go begging. With near misses, good goalkeeping and defensive blocks appearing to be the order of the day, Rory won the ball in the middle of the pitch, evaded a number of challenges to score the goal which at least gave us a glimmer of hope.

In the absence of team manager, Dylan Hall, it was up to Nick Loftus, a slightly younger version of Roy Hodgson, to convince the lads that a second half comeback was possible if only we could plug the gaps at the back and indeed the ex England manager would have been proud of our boys because they began to defend as a team and gave Kai and Theo the support they needed at critical moments. As a result our performance after the break waslittle short of amazing. Evan outpaced his markers to put the ball into the top corner to reduce the deficit to a single goal and even though Charlie Durnall, another of our midfield dynamos, was denied by a great save from the Harborne keeper there was no stopping us and two goals in quick succession from Rory Butler sealed the match. One flew into the far corner of the goal, and the other was a deflection, but they all count and Rory wasn't going to stop there. His next effort came back off the bar, but fortunately Claudiu was following up to tap in the rebound and full of confidence the boys produced some great football. Evan ran through to make the score 6-3 and with the last kick of the game Evan powered in a tremendous shot from the edge of the box to provide an emphatic finish.Full time: Wolverhampton 7 Harborne 3 and six of our goals came in that stunning second half.Mind blowing!!
