May 17th 20024. A promising start for the U10 Girls' team.

The newly formed U10 Girls team made their debut this evening and exceeded expectations by putting in some really promising performances across their five games. The hastily assembled squad had never played together before but they gradually grew in confidence and they never allowed their efforts to drop whether we were winning, or losing, a particular match. Results weren't important of course but the need to keep all thirteen players fully involved undoubtedly had an effect and constant changes made it difficult for us to develop the level of consistency which all successful sides require. Nevertheless, the girls seemed to shrug off any problems and they could hardly have made a better start than winning their opening game against Aston by a 3-0 margin. Summer Ilsley (2) and Layla Dolman linking up extremely well to net our three goals. Goalless draws against East Birmingham and Kings Norton followed and with three games gone we were still to concede a goal.Always a great achievement, but the fact that we didn't have anyone who had ever played in goal before, made the feat even more remarkable!

Any thought that we were the finished article, however, was soon dispelled in our final two fixtures which both ended in defeat. The team from South Staffs was certainly the outstanding side on show and losing 3-0 to them was certainly no disgrace and Walsall weren't far behind, but we ran them close by losing 2-1 with Layla scoring her second goal of the evening.
