May 3rd 2024. U13 Girls go down fighting against Notts County.

Wolverhampton went into this fixture against Notts County as underdogs but we looked the better side throughout and certainly dominated the early stages.Plenty of opportunities went begging as the Wolverhampton girls gradually gained control and we nearly took the lead with Harmani firing at the keeper and Dhemi shooting just fwide. Tayne, was looking really dangerous as a result of her ability to produce some excellent crosses but eventually the Academy girls began to show their quality with some outstanding play on the left and they grabbed the lead with a thunderbolt finish after some great link up play in the box. This led to Notts County grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck and the next ten minutes was undoubtedly our worst spell of the match. The Academy side doubled their advantage in this period, with a snapshot strike, and we went into the break realising that we still had plenty of work to do in the second half.

This was certainly a game where dominance wasn't the only factor and our girls chased down every Notts County pass straight from the kick off and Tayne produced a moment of magic by taking the ball off a defender to find herself clean through on goal.Arguably it should have been a penalty but Faith was able to pick the ball up, round the keeper, and fire across goal for Dhemi to tap home her 16th goal of the season. A fired up Wolverhampton were now on a mission but chance after chance went begging. Credit must go to the County keeper, who handled some stinging shots from Savannah and Tilly but she was well beaten when Dhemi went agonisingly close only to see her shot hit the side netting. To make matters worse we then conspired to gift the oppostion a goal through poor defending and once again we had a mountain to climb. For a time we looked a little bit deflated but just as our attacks were decreasing Lexi Ruby headed home, after a super corner from Tilly, and the comeback was truly on once again.Despite building attack after attack and every one of our girls putting in the maximum effort, the equaliser eluded us,however, and Notts County held on for the win. They were obviously delighted to have done so in this end to end encounter but the Wolverhampton girls will still feel gutted that they were not able to achieve a more positive result. One more game to go to wrap up what has been in many ways a great season, with another victory.
