September 27th 2025. Goals galore for the u10 Boys.

Wolverhampton U10's faced Sutton Coldfield in the McGregor Cup on Saturday, missing two of their most influential players in key defender, Austin and top-scorer Kaison. With Kaison absent, there were certainly question marks over where the goals would come from but as the match began at a frantic pace we began to realise that we had no need to worry. With barely five minutes on the clock Jaxxon won the ball in midfield and released Alessandro, who showed great composure in giving us the lead and despite our opponents equalising and indeed going 2-1 ahead it soon became apparent that we had discovered a gem. Indeed, Wolverhampton weren’t behind for long and it was Alessandro who crashed the ball home to make it 2-2 after a superb diagonal ball from Arjan had opened up the Sutton defence and moments later the same player found Alessandro again with a brilliant crossfield free kick enabling him to complete his hat trick.Sutton were handed a lifeline from the penalty spot, but blazed their effort over, meaning Wolves held a narrow 3–2 advantage at the break.

Sutton come out firing for the second half and equalised straight after the restart before capitalising on a defensive lapse to go 4-3 ahead but Wolverhampton were still very much in the game and Jaxxon struck the crossbar with a free-kick with the keeper beaten. Unfortunately it proved to be the turning point because our opponents hit us twice on the break as we left ourselves stretched at the back to establish a decisive 6-3 lead. Alessandro nearly reduced the deficit with a smart effort as we continued to press forward and he eventually claimed his fourth goal by lifting the ball brilliantly over the keeper into the top corner but any hope of an amazing comeback was finally extinguished when Sutton scored twice more with powerful finishes despite Stefan’s brave attempts to save in goal.

Wolverhampton did have the final say, however, with Arjan's super last minute free-kick rounding off a pulsating contest and despite losing 8-5 there were plenty of positives. Alessandro’s four-goal haul shows we no longer have to rely solely on Kaison for firepower while in Arjan we possess a player who has the creativity from wide areas to be a constant threat. George also made some important tackles at the back and with a little more composure our young side certainly looks capable of making a real mark as the competition unfolds.
