Erdington A 1-8 Wolves

Team: Joe, Kyle, Ollie, Charlie, Aaron, Lewis, Elliot, Ethan, Ricky, Rohi, Billy, Fabio

Goalscorers: Elliot x2, Aaron x2, Ethan x2, Ricky, Kyle

A barnstorming performance from the lads, playing in their first game since Lockdown #3. Castle Vale was the venue for our bleary-eyed boys; turning up at 8.15am for an 8:45am kick off is always appreciated. We didn’t start very well and a little bit of rustiness led to a mix up between our defenders, who hadn’t played together for 6 months! 1-0 to Erdington after 2 minutes was not the start we wanted. What followed, however, was an extremely dominant performance and aside from a couple of quality saves from Joe and an offside goal for Erdington, we controlled the game in a very pleasing way.

Our equaliser came from an overload on the Erdington left and after some work from Charlie down the left hand side, a fabulous through ball from Lewis left Elliot one-on-one with the ‘keeper. Elliot made no mistake with an emphatic finish right into the corner. It was quickly 2-1, when Aaron rose highest from Elliot’s corner. Our next two goals came in quick succession before half time. Some lovely passing allowed Billy to lay the ball to Elliot, who scored another with a now trademark finish. Our fourth came when Rohi was fouled on the edge of the box. Fabio took responsibility for the free kick - he hit the bar with a cracking strike and Aaron followed it in for his second of the game. Erdington 1-4 Wolves HT.

The boys were encouraged to keep on the front foot at the start of the second half although we had many chances, the Erdington goalkeeper had to make some excellent saves to keep the score at 4-1. However, with some quite stunning one-touch passing from Aaron, Fabio and Ricky, the ball fell to Ricky who struck a perfect shot first time into the top corner. A quite amazing team goal and finish.

We kept pressing and winning the ball back high up the pitch and after some brilliant skill and shot from Ethan, Kyle tucked away the rebound to make it 6. Ollie, our rock at the back, made some excellent interceptions which made our attacks begin quicker and more purposeful. Our seventh was scored by debutant Ethan, who took two shots to beat the excellent Erdington keeper. Ethan also scored our eighth goal with a stinging long shot that unfortunately squirmed through the keeper’s legs. A very good performance, with contributions from every member of the team!
