Wolverhampton started brightly in their opening game against South Birmingham , with Kaison and Jett creating good openings only for our opponents to grab a 5 minute lead through a rapid counter-attack which ended with a stunning strike off the far post. Goalkeeper Stefan kept his side in the game with a fine save, before South Birmingham doubled their lead from a driven corner which fell kindly for a forward to net from close range. Moments later, an unstoppable long-range effort gave Stefan no chance, leaving Wolves trailing 0-3 but our lads refused to give in and finally reduced the arrears in the closing minutes. Austin's superb ball out from defence, finding Kaison, who cleverly linked with Jaxxon enabling the latter to unleash a thunderous finish.
The 3-1 reverse made our u10's even more determined and they began their second match of the morning with real intent. Kaison broke free of his marker and calmly slotted home to give our team the lead against North Shropshire and in the opening stages we were well on top. Jaxxon commanded midfield and created chances for both himself and Kaison, while Dilroop tested the keeper with a well-struck effort and just when it looked as though we were about to run away with the game our opponents equalised totally against the run of play through an unmarked tap-in at the back post. Kaison continued to torment the defence, hitting the woodwork twice, and with Mohammed and Jett also going close it seemed only a matter of time before we once again took control. Football is rarely predictable, however, and just when we looked at our most menacing North Shropshire broke once again and snatched a second goal.
We may have been down but we were far from out and Wolverhampton’s response was superb. Kaison’s mazy run brought a fine save, but Jett was on hand to slot home the rebound and within minutes Austin won possession in midfield and Jett's pass was driven home by Kaison. We never lost the lead again although we were a little relieved to see a spectacular North Shropshire overhead kick rattle the post. Kaison added his second with a clever finish through the goalkeeper’s legs, before completing his hat-trick with another clinical strike from Jaxxon’s excellent pass and in the dying minutes, he struck again to seal a a much-deserved 5-2 victory.
Kaison obviously caught the eye with a brilliant four-goal haul but football is a team game and Austin was the unsung hero outstanding in defence and pivotal in starting attacks.
