With no scheduled fixture this week the lads played a friendly game against East Birmingham in Aston Villa’s Brookvale Dome. The two teams hadn't played each other before, so both were keen to test each other and it was Wolverhampton who took the initiative early on. We started brightly and Albaji scored his first goal of the season after storming through the midfield and this set the tone for the rest of the half. Some of the football our lads played was a delight and goals from Thai, Irorun, Lucas and Corban made the score 5-0 with just 20 minutes played. We had simply blown East Birmingham away with our attacking prowess but despite the score we must not forget the fantastic defensive display from Charlie, Ollie and Nihaal which gave us the ptatform to push forward at will.
Keeping focussed for the duration of a whole match with such a big lead is never easy, however, and there is little doubt that we tended to take our foot off the gas in the second half and to their credit our opponents gave a much better defensive performance after the interval. The play became increasingly more scrappy and it took a goal from East Birmingham to spur us into action once again. Albaji returned to the pitch ,after being substituted in the first half, and he scored his second of the match two minutes from the end to complete a 6-1 victory. Ollie was awarded the Player of the Match award for his defensive display at right back which ensured that East Birmingham were never able to find a route back into the match.
