In what was the first Wolverhampton Schools FA Girls’ team for as many years as can be remembered, a first fixture against North Shropshire was a fantastic occasion to showcase how hard the girls had worked to get to this point.

The coaches decided to rotate as much as possible to give players different experiences of lots of positions. We very quickly went 1-0 up when Sareet dribbled through the middle of the North Shropshire defence to score her first of the game. North Shropshire came back with an excellent goal of their own to make it 1-1, with a great turn and cross across the box, which their striker finished off. Another fantastic goal from Wolverhampton was scored by Lexi this time with a fantastic chip after Ola had won the ball high up the pitch to make it 2-1. However, it was very quickly 2-2, as a defensive mix up (hardly surprising as it was their first game together) allowed the N.Shropshire striker to score into an open net. 2-2.

We scored the next five goals in the game as a period of dominance really paid off for our girls. Our third goal was a well-taken, powerful free kick from Sareet which the goalkeeper couldn’t handle. 3-2. Our fourth was an excellent strike from Sareet into the bottom corner to complete her hattrick. 4-2. Sareet then scored again after another run forwards from her defensive position to make it 5-2. Ola got her first of the game with a smart finish low into the corner. 6-2. Lexi then got her second of the game, a fabulous solo goal after a mazy run. 7-2. There was time for one more goal of the first half when North Shropshire received a penalty which was despatched to make it 7-3 at Half Time.

During the second half, things were changed around. There were lots of chances for both teams and North Shropshire would have scored many more goals if it wasn’t for the excellence of Phoebe in the Wolverhampton goal. We quickly made it 8-3 when Sareet hit a stinging shot from distance which was too much for the ‘keeper. Then, the North Shropshire winger came forwards on the right hand side and hit an unstoppable shot into the net. 8-4. Sareet made it 9-4 to secure her double hattrick and Ola 10-4 when the ball was struck against her and it looped over the ‘keeper into the net after some great work from Kiara. We went 11-4 up when Ellie-Mae hit the ball perfectly, right into the top corner. A great goal to end a great evening for us. We did concede two more excellent goals, especially a free kick into the top corner. The final score was 11-6 – a great game between two very talented teams. Thank you to North Shropshire for travelling to Wolverhampton and helping us celebrate a special occasion and thank you to the support of Wolves Foundation and RTC staff, without whom none of this would be possible.
